رواه حيث قال: وأما مواخاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله اياه وامتزاجه به، وتنزيله إياه منزلة نفسه، وميله اليه، وإيثاره إياه، فهذا ‏بيانه: فإنه قد روى الامام الترمذي في صحيحه، بسنده عن زيد بن أرقم رضي الله عنه أنه قال: لما آخى رسول الله بين أصحابه جاءه ‏علي تدمع عيناه، فقال يا رسول الله آخيت بين أصحابك ولم تؤاخ بيني وبين أحد. قال: فسمعت رسول الله يقول: أنت أخي في الدنيا ‏والآخرة. وروى بسنده أيضا: أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: من كنت مولاه فعلي مولاه، وهذا اللفظ بمجرده رواه الترمذي ‏ولم يزد عليه، وزاد غيره ذكره اليوم والموضع، فذكر الزمان وهو عند عود رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم من حجة الوداع من اليوم ‏الثامن عشر من ذي الحجة، وذكر المكان وهو ما بين مكة والمدينة يسمى خما في غدير هناك، فسمي ذلك اليوم يوم غدير خم، وقد ‏ذكره حسان في شعره الذي تقدم، وصار ذلك عيدا وموسما، لكونه كان وقتا خص رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عليا بهذه المنزلة ‏العلية، وشرفه بها دون الناس كلهم.‏



He reports that by saying: “As for the adoption of Ali by the Messenger of Allah as a brother, and his close association with him (i.e.Ali) and considering him as his own self, and his devotion to him, and affection for him, then the following is its account”: Imam Tirmidhi, based on his chain of authorities, reports in his Sahih from Zayd bin Arqam -may Allah be pleased with him- that the latter said:

"When the Messenger of Allah established bond of brotherhood among his companions, Ali came to him with tears flowing from his eyes and said: "O Messenger of Allah! you have established bond of brotherhood between all your companions, but have not done so between me and any other person".

Zayd bin Arqam says: "I heard, then, the Messenger of Allah saying: "You are my brother in this world and in the hereafter".

And also reported on his chain of authorities is that the Messenger of Allah - peace and salutations of Allah be upon him - said: "Of whomsoever I am the master then Ali is his master". These words have been recorded exactly as they are by Tirmidhi and without any addition, while others have stated, in addition to that, the 'day' and the 'place'. Thus they mention the 'time', and that was during the return of the Messenger of Allah - peace and salutations of Allah be upon him - from the farewell pilgrimage, on the eighteenth day of Dhil-Hijjah and they mention the 'place' to be an area somewhere in Ghadir, located between Mecca and Madina, called 'Khum'. Hence that day came to be known as "the day of Ghadir Khum". And Hassaan has referred to this day in his aforementioned poem.

This day became a feast, since it was a day in which the Messenger of Allah - peace and salutations of Allah be upon him - endowed Ali particularly with this lofty position and honoured him with it, unlike the rest of the people".
