Al-Dhahabí said: He was one of the leading scholars. He narrated good traditions. He was an imám, a jurist (faqíh), and a traditionist with numerous traditions, though he was not equal to \ammád b. Zayd in skill. Al-Bukhárí has cited his tradition and Muslim has followed al-Bukhárí in narrating from him. Ya<yá b. Ma`ín has considered him reliable.
