This is an introductory course to the study of Arabic grammar (also see prerequisites). This course will not focus on vocabulary building. The focus of the course is grammar and students are encouraged to build vocabulary on their own or through separate courses.
Topics: An introduction to Arabic grammar and the division of words into Nouns, Verbs and Particles, Nouns in Arabic (the importance of Definiteness, Gender and Number), Forming Adjectives by association (nisba), Phrases vs. Sentences, Types of sentences in Arabic, the Nominal Sentence, Verbs - Past Tense and Present Tense (excluding dual and feminine plural), Pronouns in Arabic: Subject, Object & Possessive Pronouns, Basic Demonstrative & Relative Pronouns, Interrogative Particles, Telling the Time, Counting Numbers (1-10), Number & Number Agreement in Arabic.
Prerequisites:
1) Ability to read Arabic (Qur'an) with reasonable fluency and write/copy Arabic script (No knowledge of Arabic grammar is assumed.
