Thank you for your question. Allah’s presence is so overwhelming that He cannot be completely known. The sense for Him that we feel within is something that is deeply intwined with our very nature as humans and it is this sense that we seek to develop and what is termed as our relationship with Allah. The journey to kindle the fire of that inner light until it illuminates the whole of our existence is one of self purification. As we clean away the dirt of all that is opposed to Allah, His presence shines through the mirror of our hearts. It is not a journey that can be covered by traveling an outward distance, but a journey within.

The first stage is to stay away from all that is forbidden and to perform all that is obligatory. The next stage is to work on improving our behaviours and ridding ourselves of negative traits. All the while worship illuminates the inner and knowledge strengthens worship, intellection, understanding and wisdom. Knowledge of the Quran and the teachings of the Infallibles (as). It is a journey that needs time, and one always has to take themselves to account for their progress, reassess and make plans for how to succeed. Like anything that we want in life, if we want a strong relationship with Allah we have to invest in achieving it.

May you always be successful.
