Prophet Muhammad

Muhammad (Arabic: مُحَمَّد‎, pronounced [muħammad]; c. 570 CE – 8 June 632 CE) was an Arab religious, social, and political leader and the founder of Islam. According to Islamic doctrine, he was a prophet, sent to present and confirm the monotheistic teachings preached previously by Adam, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and other prophets.

There is no evidence that the wives of the Prophet (S) or Fatimah al-Zahra (A) covered their faces.

Face-covering (niqab) became common among Muslims around or after the time of the caliphate of Imam 'Ali in Kufa, and so it seems reasonable that his daughters and those who came after them covered their faces since this was a social norm then at that time, at least for women of certain social classes.

(This is of course based on historical records we have of that time, and God knows best.)

The Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) used to give lot of importance to perfumes and made perfume as one of the most favorite things in life.

He used to spend on perfumes more than his spending on food.

He used to say that there is no Israaf ( sinful over spending) in spending on perfume.

We have in the narrations that he used to use different type of perfumes including Misk (Musk), roses (Red roses and White roses), Zafaran, Yaas etc.

It is highly recommended to use perfumes everyday and specially when we pray Salah as the reward of Salah with perfume is seventy times more than with out perfume.

Wassalam.

Thank you for your question. The pre-eternal existence of the reality of the Prophet (saw) is understood from the traditions concerning the first creations that God created as being the Prophet (saw) and the Imams (as) (see al-Kafi (2) 443 for example). The rational theorization of what this means is derived from trying to understand how a limited world comes about from an unlimited Creator without that world being something completely separate from Him, as that would result in His limitation. To properly get to grasp with these kinds of questions and their theories a background in philosophy and theoretical mysticism is needed, but I hope that goes some way to answer the first part of your question.

As for the second part of your question, the issue of Jesus (as) being born in the material world before the birth of the Prophet (saw) is different from the ontological precedence of the reality of the Prophet (saw) over all of creation. The reality of the Prophet (saw) is not the material manifestation of the Prophet (saw), but it is his ontological reality as the first creation of God and the most unlimited of His creation. It is this reality that Jesus (as) too was a manifestation of.

May you always be successful.

Thank you for your question. The criteria to understand this statement is not the amount of Christians or Muslims as that would mean that another shared prophet, such as Ibrahim (as) would be the most beloved as Jews, Christians and Muslims all love prophet Ibrahim (as) for example. Rather, the Prophet (saw) being the most beloved creation can be understood in a couple of ways:

1) He (saw) is the most beloved creature to God, and since God has the greatest capacity to love, the Prophet (saw) is the most beloved creature of all time.

2) The pre-eternal reality of the Prophet (saw) is the source of existence of all that is good and so the whole of creation from its beginning to its end loves the Prophet (saw) including Jesus (as), whose very goodness and belovedness is derived from the belovedness of the Prophet (saw).

May you always be successful.

These four quotations from historical sources should help answer this question.

Al-Hakim, in his al-Mustadrak, states that the Prophet kept confiding in 'Ali till the time of his death. Then he breathed his last.

When the body of the Prophet (s) was being given ghusl, according to Tarikh al-Khamis, al-’Abbas, Fadhl and Qutham turned the body of the Prophet (s) from one side to the other as Usamah and Shaqran poured water over it. All of them were blind-folded.

Ibn Sa'd narrates in his al-Tabaqat from Imam 'Ali that the Prophet had so enjoined that if anyone except himself ('Ali) had given him the funeral bath, he would have gone blind.

Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr, in his al-Isti'ab, quotes 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas as saying that 'Ali had four such exceptional honours to his credit as none of us had, and he listed them all, the fourth being that he was the only person who gave the Prophet his funeral bath and lowered him in his grave.

Thank you for your question. This is not a jurisprudential issue such that it would be permitted or not, but such feelings may occur in an individual based on what they have understood of different prophets (as). The truth is that all of the prophets (as) are a reflection of the Prophet (saw) who was the most complete of them and so loving any of the prophets (as) is in truth loving the Prophet (saw) himself. The dichotomy arises in our minds due to the incomplete picture that history gives us. But if one is able to understand that there is no separation between the prophets (as) and that the Prophet Muhammad (saw) comprised all of what the other prophets had, while they did not comprise all of what he had, then they will come to the understanding that the Prophet (saw) is the most loved creature in all of existence.

May you always be successful.

Long life gifted by Allah (SWT) to Jesus, Al-Khidhr and Imam Al-Mahdi (AS) does not mean does not mean that they will never die. Prophet Easa Jesus (AS) will definitely taste death when his life ends. The criticism is invalid.

The question of how many daughters the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his Progeny) had, has come from some people, who wanted to attribute the lineage of the Prophet’s fostered daughters to the lineage of the Prophet’s real daughter.

The people in Jahiliyah (Before Islam) had the same way of thinking as these people do. The people in Jahiliyah also used to attribute the lineage of fostered children to the lineage of their guardians, and mistakenly claim they all equal children.

That’s why it is well known that Prophet’s fostered son, Zaid Bin Harithah , used to be called “Zaid ibn Muhammad” by some people, even though Zaid was never the Prophet’s son at all but son of Harithah.

It was for that very reason that Allah ordered the Prophet to get married to Zainab bint Jahsh, who was the ex-wife of Zaid. This was to correct the Jahili thinking that the fostered son is like the real son.

“O Prophet, remember when you said to the one (Zaid) whom Allah as well as you had favored: "Keep your wife in wedlock and fear Allah". You sought to hide in your heart what Allah intended to reveal; you were afraid of the people whereas it would have been more appropriate to fear Allah. So when Zaid divorced his wife, We gave her to you in marriage, so that there remains no hindrance for the believers to wed the wives of their adopted sons if they divorced them. And Allah's Command had to be carried out.”

-Surah Al Ahzab, Ayah 37

From the same origin of misunderstanding, some people claimed that the Prophet had 3 daughters prior to Fatima being born. However, this is a misconception as these 3 daughters were his fostered daughters while Fatima was his real biological daughter.

Here are some facts to clarify this misunderstanding;

1. Lady Khadijah had a sister by the name of Haala bint Khuwailid. Haala had 3 daughters whose names were Zainab, Rukhaiya & Umm Kulthum (Manaaqib aal Abi Talib, volume 1, page 162).

Even some of the historians have stated that Zainab & Rukhaiya were the daughters of Haala's husband from another wife (not Hala), but both mother and father died, so Khadijah adopted them (Al-Istigatha by Al-Kufi, volume 1, page 68).

All of the authentic evidences make it very clear that all of the Prophet’s children were born after The Bi'atha/declaration of Prophet hood (see Al Bad' Wal Tarikh البدء والتاريخ , volume 5, page 16, Nasib Quraysh نسب قريش Volume 21, Al Mawahib Al Laduniyya, المواهب اللدنية volume 1, page 196, Tareek Al Khamis تاريخ الخميس , volume 1, page 272, Majma Al Zawaid مجمع الزوائد , volume 9, page 217, Al Bidaiya Wal Nihaiya البداية والنهاية  , volume 12, page 294, Al Seerah Al Halabiyyah السيرة الحلبية , volume 3, page 308)

Zainab & Rukhaiya, the fostered daughters of Khadija were married to 2 sons of Abu Lahab, then they got divorced from them. One of them eventually got married to Uthmaan.

That proves that they were not the real daughters of the Prophet because all of the Prophet’s children were born after Bi'tha/declaration of Prophet hood.

Some people claim that these 3 daughters were Khadijah’s own daughters from a previous marriage. However, this claim of a "previous' marriage is doubtful because the narrations which state that Khadijah had a husband before she was married to the Prophet, were fabricated by supporters of Bani Ummaiya in an attempt lower the status of Lady Khadijah.

The authentic evidence shows us that Lady Khadijah refused all marriage proposals from the leaders of society at that time and that she was only ever married to the Prophet, peace be upon him and all his noble family.

Many authentic historians and scholars like Ibn Shar Ashub ابن شهر آشوب , Ahmed Al Balathoreeأحمد البلاذري , Abul Qasim al Kufi أبو القاسم الكوفي , Al Mortatha السيد المرتضى in his book “Al-Shaafi” and Abu Jafar in his book “Al-Talkees”التلخيص , have confirmed that Lady Khadijah got married to the Prophet when she was a virgin.

In the well-known authentic sermon of Fatima a.s, in the Masjid of the Prophet, in front of a big number of Muslims, she said “The Prophet is my father and never the father of any other woman”. This means that she was affirming that she was the Prophet’s only real daughter.

In the book Sahih Al Bukari, volume 3, page 68, there is a clear evidence that Ali was the only son-in-law of the Prophet and Uthmaan was not.

These are a few points to confirm that Fatima a.s was the only real daughter of the Prophet.

No need to mention the emphasis of the Prophet in telling the people to be just when dealing with their daughters and sons and to treat them fairly and equally. Seeing as this is the case, why would the Prophet focus only on Fatima, in all of the Hadith that have been recorded about his gifting Fadak to her and only her? There is no mention of these other fostered daughters.

This itself is a further evidence that Fatima was the Prophet’s only daughter while the others were fostered by him and his wife Khadija.

When we recite Durood (Salawaat) we mention the Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) and his Progeny (Ahlul Bayt)(AS) and Hazrat Ali (AS) is the head of Ahlul Bayt (AS) after the Prophet (SAWA).

Imam Ali (AS) was brought in Mubahala as Nafs of the Prophet (SAWA) while Hasan (AS) and Husain (AS) where brought as the sons of the Prophet (SAWA).

Imam Redha (AS) when Al-Ma'moon asked him about he greatest tribute of Ali in Quran, said : Mubahala when Allah mentioned Ali as Nafs of the Prophet (SAWA).

1. We find in Quran that Allah (The Glorious) orders people to be with be The Truthful who are the Infallible  (Al-Tawbah 119).

2. We also find in Quran that Allah (The Glorious) orders the believers who repent and need forgiveness to go through the Prophet (Al-Nisaa, 64). This means that reaching to Allah need going through His most humble servants and never away from them.

3. Even in performing the worship of Hajj, when Allah ordered prophet Ebrahim to call people for Hajj, people are asked to come to the Prophet(يأتوك رجالا ) to perform this important obligatory worship (Al-Hajj 27). This is very clear that worshipping Allah must be under the guidance of His most humble servants and not away from them.

4. The best way to reach to the nearness of Allah is to go through His most Humble servants who ae the Prophets and the Infallible Imams. They are the best teachers and  best examples and going through them teaches us the real obedience of Allah (The Glorious).

5. Those who misunderstand this concept need to think sincerely; Can we get knowledge without going to the knowledgeable scholars? So, how can we learn to be obedient and humble to Allah (The Glorious) with out going to His most humble servants?

6. We love, obey and seek the Waseelah and Shafa'ah of the Prophet (SAWA) and his Ahlul Bayt (AS) not only because we were been ordered in Quran to seek their Waseelah (Al-Ma'idah 35 and Al-Israa' 57) but also to be with them and under their guidance which the real guidance of Allah (The Glorious).
