No. The main condition for a man to have more than one wife is the practical justice between them. Those men who are unable to have and keep this condition are not allowed but one wife.

Is it allowed to go a family gathering where women have worn makeup and dressed improperly? And although men and women may be sitting at different tables, there is no barrier. Would it be permissible if not going there would mean severing ties of kinship?

It is very important to have good relationship with your relatives but that should never make you disobey Allah in sitting with females who improperly dressed or wearing makeup. We must avoid such gatherings until the participants make proper sitting arrangement for men and women with out mixing.

Wearing full Hijab is compulsory for females just like praying Salaah, fasting, etc. This means that it is an Order from Allah. Every Muslim must respect and follow the orders of Allah as much as possible.

Wearing black cloth for mourning the tragedies of the Prophet (SAWA) and Ahlul Bayt (AS) is a sign of the noble feelings of love to Allah, His Prophet (SAWA) and Ahlul Bayt (AS). It is very good to do so, but it is not obligatory.

No, it is customary. It is not haraam to wear other colours, but sometimes people impose restrictions or expectations and are judgmental towards other beyond what Allah requires.

I have heard that the worst space in Jahannum will be filled with women who do not cover themselves up. Is this true?

This is excessive.

Jahannum is like a rubbish heap and the people who are in the worst space of jahannum are trash - that is, those people who have no redeeming qualities and no hope of improvement because they have destroyed themselves. For instance, despots who wantonly rape, torture, and kill; or people who cheat the poor and live lavishly and show it off in their faces.

Allah mentions in the Qur'an those people whom He does not love (oppressors, etc), and from this list, we can get an idea of some of the biggest things that lead people deep into hell. Clothing style is not mentioned on this list.

However, one should remember, in the hereafter, our outer deeds are weighed along with our intention. So a person might do something that seems small in this world, but it would become big there because of their intention. So, for instance, if someone wears a certain clothing style with the goal to challenge or mock Allah and to spread a destructive ideology, this would be something very serious. Conversely, Allah might forgive a major sin like murder because He understands the circumstances.

So we cannot say 100% what are the results of our actions, but, in general, the worst parts of hell are for the people who do the worst things, like Firawn.

Some people say things like what you say based on some narrations which, when you dig into them, are rather questionable.

People focus on the outer more than the inner because it is apparent and because people have other challenges that relate to being a social being or controlling their own nafs, but Allah takes the whole picture into account.

When someone, who has an apparent prejudice against Muslims, asks me why Muslim women observe the Hijab, what should be my crisp and concise answer?

You can tell him that Hijab is the modest dress of woman which keeps her respect and dignity as a valuable and honorable human being. Even many Christian nuns wear similar dress like our Muslim women Hijab.

Why were women and children taken along to Karbala when Imam Hussain (as) knew what would happen there and how the women would be imprisoned?

Imam Hussain (AS) wanted sincere eye witnesses to tell people after his martyrdom what really happened in Karbala keeping in mind the falsehood which Yazeed and his gang were intending to spread among Muslims against Imam Hussain (AS). Mo'awiyah, father of Yazeed, spread rumors among people in Syria that Ali does not pray Namaz, that is why when the news reached Shaam that Imam Ali (AS) was martyred inside the Masjid of Kufa, people of Shaam started asking: What Ali was doing in the Masjid when he does not pray Namaz?

Yazeed and his gang wanted to fabricate stories against Imam Hussain (AS) to mislead people away from Ahlul Bayt (AS). Imam Hussain (AS) took his family members with him knowing what will happen to him and them, to make them witness and convey the message to all Muslims after him.

The great rule of Lady Zainab and Lady Um Kolthoum after Karbala shows how it was necessary to have eye witnesses to inform Muslim generations and refute the false propaganda of Yazeed.

The sufferings of the family of Imam Hussain (AS) was mentioned by him as narrated when he replied those who asked him why to take his family members: Allah has ordained to see me martyred and see my family members captured شاء الله أن يراني قتيلا ويراهنّ سبايا

Can grown unmarried men or women keep Mustahab fasts without their parents' permission? In the case that their parents don't know and they are told to eat, can they break their fast?

Recommended fast can be broken any time. It is recommended to eat or drink if a Mo'min invite you while your fasting a recommended fast with out telling him that you are fasting.

No need for permission of parents in recommended fast nor in other recommended worship.
