Ibn Hajar mentioned it alone on volume 2 page 257 of his book “Al-Isabah“ as follows: Ibn Mandah related it through `Umar b. `Abd Allah b. Ya`la b. Murrah, from his father from his grandfather who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah [s] saying: ‘To whoever I am his master, ‘Ali is his master.’ When ‘Ali arrived in Kufa he implored the people gathering there; Seventeen of them responded, among them were `Amir bin Layla al-Ghifari. Abu Musa thought it was possible that it was the one Ibn al-Athir followed. The matter is that he is `Amir Ibn Layla bin Damrah himself; the 'min' (from) was changed to 'ibn' (son of). Doubtlessly, everyone whose surname is Ghifari is originally from Damrah, for his or her grandfather, Ghifar Ibn Malil is a son of Damra. My opinion is that the difference in the narration makes the presence of multiple versions more likely.
