(5647) Al-Wald and Ab Bakr b. Quraysh informed me that Al-\asan b. Sufyn narrated to us that Mu<ammad b. `Abdah narrated to us that al-\asan b. al-\usayn[1] narrated to us that Rif`ah b. Iys al-abb narrated to us from his father, from his grandfather who said:

We were with `Al on the day of al-Jamal when he sent word to ^al<a b. `Ubaydallh: Come and meet me!

^al<a came to him and he said: "I adjure you by Allh, did you hear the Messenger of Allh say: "Of whomsoever I am master, `Al is his master. O Allh, befriend the one who befriends him and be at enmity with one who is at enmity with him?"

He said: "Yes." He said: "Then why do you fight against me?"

He said: "I do not remember." He (the narrator) said: Then ^al<a departed.
