وعنه: عن البراء: إن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم نزل بغدير خم، وأمر فكسح بين شجرتين، وصيح بين الناس فاجتمعوا، فحمد الله وأثنى ‏عليه ثم قال: ألست أولى بالمؤمنين من أنفسهم؟ قالوا: بلى. قال: ألست أولى بالمؤمنين من آبائهم؟ قالوا: بلى. فدعا عليا فأخذ بعضده ‏ثم قال: هذا وليكم من بعدي. اللهم وال من والاه وعاد من عاداه. فقام عمر إلى علي فقال ليهنئك يا ابن أبي طالب، أصبحت - أو ‏قال: أمسيت - مولى كل مؤمن.‏
