Abu al-Hasan `Ali b. Muhammad, al-Tayyib al-Jullabi, known as Ibn al-Maghazili, related this tradition from Abu Hurayra. These are precisely his words: “Abu Bakr Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Tawan told us that Ahmad b. al-Husayn Ibn Sammak said: Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. Nasir al-Khuldi told me that `Ali b. Sa`id b. Qutaybah al-Ramli told him that Damrah b. Rabi`ah al-Qarshi related from Abu Hurayra through Ibn Shawdhab, Matr al-Warraq and Shahr b. Hawshab, this hadith: ‘The one who fasts the 18th day of the month of Dhu'l Hijjah, will get the reward of fasting sixty months. It is the Day of Ghadir Khumm when the Prophet [s] took the hand of `Ali ibn Abi Talib and said: ‘ Do I not have more right over the believers than what they have over themselves?’ They said: ‘Yes, O' Messenger of God.’ He said: ‘ Then, for whoever I am his master(mawla), 'Ali is his master (mawla).’ 'Umar said thereafter: ‘Well done, well done Ibn Abi Talib! Today you became my, and every believing man and woman’s, master(mawla).’ Allah then revealed: ‘Today I have perfected your religion.’
