أبي منصور شهردار بن شيرويه بن شهردار الديلمي قال: أخبرني الحسن بن أحمد ابن الحسن الحداد المقري الحافظ قال: نبأنا أحمد بن عبد الله بن أحمد قال: نبأنا محمد بن أحمد بن علي قال: نبأنا محمد بن عثمان بن أبي شيبة قال: نبأنا يحيى الحماني قال: حدثنا قيس بن الربيع، عن أبي هارون العبدي، عن أبي سعيد الخدري: إن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم دعا الناس إلى علي في غدير خم، وأمر بما تحت الشجرة من الشوك فقم - وذلك يوم الخميس - فدعا عليا فأخذ بضبعيه فرفعهما، حتى نظر الناس إلى بياض إبطي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، ثم لم يفترقوا حتى نزلت هذه الآية: (اليوم أكملت لكم دينكم وأتممت عليكم نعمتي ورضيت لكم الاسلام دينا). فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: الله أكبر على إكمال الدين وإتمام النعمة ورضا الرب برسالتي والولاية لعلي من بعدي . . . الخ.

40. (With the previous chain of transmission from al-Khawلrizmي who said): The chief of the memorisers (of <adيth), Abْ Man#ْr Shahrdلr b. Shayrawiyah b. Shahrdلr al-Daylamي reported to us, he said: Al-\asan b. A<mad b. al-\asan al-\addلd al-Muqri` al-\لfi~ reported to us, he said: A<mad b. `Abdallلh b. A<mad narrated to us, he said: Mu<ammad b. A<mad b. `Alي narrated to us, he said: Mu<ammad b. `Uthmلn b. Abي Shaybah narrated to us, he said: Ya<yل al-\immلnي informed us, Qays b. al-Rabي` informed us: From Abي Hلrْn al-`Abdي from Abي Sa`يd al-Khudrي that the Messenger of Allلh, blessings of Allلh on him and his family, summoned the people to `Alي, peace be on him, in Ghadيr Khumm. He gave instructions about the thorns under the tree and they were swept up. That was a Thursday. He called `Alي and took him by his upper arms and raised them up until the people saw the whiteness of the armpits of the Messenger of Allلh. They did not disperse until this verse was revealed: ‘Today I have perfected for you your religion, and I have completed My blessing upon you, and I have approved Islam for your religion’ (5:3).
The Messenger of Allلh, blessings of Allلh on him and his family, said: “Allلh is most Great at the perfection of religion and the completion of blessings, and the Lord’s acceptance of my mission and the Wilلya of `Alي after me.” Then he said: “Of whomsoever I am master (mawlل), `Alي is his master. O Allلh, befriend one who befriends him and be at enmity with one who is hostile to him; help the one who helps him and forsake the one who forsakes him.”
\assلn said: “Will you permit me, O Messenger of Allلh, to recite some verses on `Alي, peace be upon him, for you to hear.” He said: “Recite, with the blessing of Allلh.”
So \assلn rose and said: “O elders of Quraysh, listen to my profession of the testimony of the Messenger of Allلh, blessings of Allلh on him and his family, concerning the confirmed Wilلya:
On the day of al-Ghadيr their Prophet calls to them at Khumm, so listen to the Messenger calling;
He says: ‘Who is your master and your guardian’? They said, without displaying blindness there…"
