[, , , , Hadith Literature, Siddiqi, p.50 ] Lively controversy exists about Ibn Lahi`ah's credentials. [Tadhkirat al-huffaz, al-Dhahabi, Shams al-Din Muhammad b. Ahmad b. `Uthman, Abu `Abd Allah, Haydarabad: Da'irat al-ma`arif al-nizamiyyah, 1333 AH, v. 1, p. 215 ] Al-Dhahabi said: He was a great imam, a judge in Egypt, and one of its scholars and traditionists. Ahmad [b. Hanbal] said: There was no equal in Egypt of Ibn Lahi`ah in abundance of traditions and in accuracy and skill. Ahmad b. Salih said: He had a good book [of traditions] and was always in search of knowledge.
