Ahmad [b. Hanbal] said: I have not seen any like him in knowledge, memory, and skill combined with reverence [for Allah] and piety. [Tadhkirat al-huffaz, al-Dhahabi, Shams al-Din Muhammad b. Ahmad b. `Uthman, Abu `Abd Allah, Haydarabad: Da'irat al-ma`arif al-nizamiyyah, 1333 AH, v. 1, p. 280 ] Ibn Ma`in, al-`Ijli and Ibn Sa`d have considered him reliable. Ahmad [b.
