Abu Umama (w32. 1(4)) is Sudayy ibn `Ajlan ibn Wahb, Abu Umama al-Bahili (Allah be well pleased with him), a Companion of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). He was with `Ali in the battle of Siffin, and later settled in Syria. Some 250 hadiths are related from him by Bukhari and Muslim. He died in Hims in 81/700, the last of the Companions to die in Syria (al-A`lam (y136), 3.203).
