[Taqrib al-Tahdhib, Ibn Hajar al-`Asqalani, Shihab al-Din Ahmad b. Nur al-Din `Ali, Abu al-Fadl al-Shafi`i, Unidentified edition, , p. 133 ] Sa`id was reliable, trustworthy, a jurist (faqih) from the third [tabaqah]. He was killed in front of al-Hajjaj [b. Yusuf al-Thaqafi] in 95 AH when he was not even fifty years of age. Jubayr was reliable, an imam, and an authority. Ibn Mihran has said that when Sa`id died there was no one in the world who was not in need of his knowledge. [Tadhkirat al-huffaz, al-Dhahabi, Shams al-Din Muhammad b. Ahmad b. `Uthman, Abu `Abd Allah, Haydarabad: Da'irat al-ma`arif al-nizamiyyah, 1333 AH, v. 1, p. 65 ] al-Dhahabi has gone to great lengths in his praise for Sa`id b. Jubayr.
