Don't overthink it - just do it - the whole idea behind it is that Allah is guiding you and you are not controlling the action yourself. Allah is merciful and will not deprive anyone of divine guidance due to details.

Usually people have in mind which direction they will be counting and then do it, for instance if I am holding it with the main bead to the left, I have the intention I am counting that way before I proceed.

Maybe someone here can post a video on YouTube or link to one (hint).

Salat al-Tasbih is known by some as "Salat Ja'far al-Tayyar" because it is said that it was taught by the Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, to his cousin Ja'far. Some reports state that it was taught to Abbas Ibn Abdul-Muttalib as well. This salat has been mentioned in many books. Amongst them:

- "al-Kafi" by Shaykh al-Kulayni

- "Man la Yahduruhu al-Faqih" by Shaykh al-Saduq

- "Tahdib al-Ahkam" by Shaykh al-Tusi

- "Sunan Abi Dawud"

- "Sunan al-Tirmidhi"

- "Sunan Ibn Majah"

It has been reported through different chains of transmission with slight variations that do not alter its integrity. It has also been reported by ulama belonging to different schools and practiced by the Imam of Ahl al-Bayt and many pious predecessors. Such widespread practice strengthens the hadiths transmitted on the authority of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him and his family.

The first step of Isteghfar is to resolve never to commit the sin again. Then you have to, in the case of backbiting, seek out those you may have talked ill of and ask for forgiveness. Thereafter, one has to seek forgiveness from Allah. Should all these steps be taken in all earnest and sincerity, then Allah is the Most Merciful and All forgiving.
