The Pains of the Body

Muhammad b. Ja’far al-Bursi narrated from Muhammad b. Yahya al-Armani from Muhammad b. Sinan al-Zahiri from al-Mufaddal b. ‘Umar al-Ju’fi from Muhammad b. Isma’il b. Abu Ri’ab from Jabir b. Yazid al-Ju’fi from al-Baqir, peace be upon him, from his father ‘Ali b. al-Husayn b. Abu Talib, peace be upon him, who attributed it to Amir al-Mu’minin, peace be upon him, that he said: “ If anyone of you has pains in his body and is overcome by fever, he must [practise] al-firash.” It was said to al-Baqir, peace be upon him, “O son of the Messenger of Allah, what is the meaning of al-firash?” He replied: “Intercourse (ghashayan) with women, for it will calm and allay it.”
