Ahl al-Bayt

Ahl al-Bayt (أهل البيت‎, Persian: اهلِ بیت‎), also Āl al-Bayt or Ahlul Bayt, is a phrase meaning, literally, "People of the House" or "Family of the House". Within the Islamic tradition, the term refers to the family of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. In Shia Islam the Ahl al-Bayt are central to Islam and interpreters of the Quran and Sunnah. Shias believe they are successors of Muhammad and consist of Muhammad, Fatimah, Ali, Hasan, and Husayn (known collectively as the Ahl al-Kisa, "people of the mantle") and the rest of the Imams from The Fourteen Infallibles.

No question of inferiority of women in Islam at all. Fatima (AS) was the lady who was granted the highest rank above all human beings including all the pious men and she is the third greatest human being after her father the Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) and her husband Ameerul Mo'mineen (AS).

The Prophet (SAWA) and Ahlul Bayt (AS) never retaliated from their oppressors but kept patience and tolerated for the sake of preserving Islam. By their great wisdom and patience, Ahlul Bayt (AS) could preserve Islamic teachings from evil rules who did not mind causing any damage to Islam and Muslims for getting or saving their chair.

The Prophet and Ahlul Bayt (SAWA) taught us that every thing is in the hands of Allah (SWT) and no Prophet or Imam can help anyone without the permission of Allah. When we call upon Ahlul Bayt (AS), we believe fully that their high status with Allah, makes their Waseela for us very useful. We never claim that any prophet or Imam can help us away or independently from Allah (SWT). Calling upon Ahlul Bayt directly means that we seek their Waseela with Allah (SWT).

Allah (SWT) ordered us in many verses in Quran to obey the Prophet (SAWA).e.g. 3:32, :132, 4:59, 4:64, 4:80 and many other verses.

'The Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) clearly told the z Muslims to salute his progeny with him. He ordered Muslims to avoid the cut off salutation which does not salute his progeny with him. لا تُصَلّوا عليّ الصلاة البتراء.

Love of one's homeland, and nationalism/patriotism are somewhat different things.

Love of Allah's creation is a good thing, and it is also a good thing to want to care for and defend your homeland.

Nationalism and patriotism in the modern era are ideological movements. Nationalism oftentimes relates to an arbitrarily drawn set of boundaries which separated formerly related peoples.

Today, nationalism and patriotism have an ugly side which can sometimes lead to hatred of the "other" or the "outsider", worshipping the flag, or caring only about what happens to the people within one's nation-state or ethnic/racial group. (For instance, neo-nazism.)

So it is good to love and develop one's homeland, but it is also good to be cautious about the negative side of modern nationalism.

Regarding hadith, there is a narration that love of one's homeland is part of faith (hubb al-watan min al-iman). However, the narration is weak, and poorly sourced, and some people consider it to have been fabricated so it is not really certain that the Prophet (S) said it, although it is often quoted today. Watan (homeland) here has also been understood to mean the hereafter, since the hereafter is the final home of everyone.

Here are some reflections by 'Allamah Tabataba'i in Tafsir al-Mizan on the nature of a society which might be pertinent. As one can see, a society is inherently neither good or bad (thus, supporting it is not inherently good or bad in and of itself, and most societies have both good and bad):

"The Qurʾan teaches that society is formed from a collection of individuals while being more than merely the sum of its parts. When people form a society, they create a new entity with its own life and identity. A society lives, ages, and dies; feels and decides: grows weaker and stronger; has its own duties; and is capable of both virtue and wickedness, and of attaining both happiness and misery, just like any individual human being. All of this has been explained by a multitude of verses in the Qurʾan, and it is something we have repeatedly pointed to through the course of our previous discussions."

A similar thing could be said for the Angel of Death: people are dying around the clock, and yet the Angel of Death is always on time!

Shaytan is a similar example - he can act on and be aware of many people at once, regardless of where they are located, without infringing on divinity.

Moving along from these morbid examples... My understanding is that once the soul leaves this world, it is not subject to the same restrictions of physical reality that we experience here (such as regarding space and time).

That could especially be said for those who have a high position near Allah, as well as other created beings which do not primarily exist on earth, such as archangels and the ruh.

Possibly they are able to "stretch" into various places at once while remaining in a place near Allah.

This is my understanding - Allah knows best.

In any case, this particular belief does not require ascribing them a divine attribute, although people may accept or reject the belief, or accept or reject the explanation.

It is a good question however!

It is untrue. It is one of the many false accusations against us fabricated by our enemies.

We believe that followers of any Muslim sect being Sunni (Hanafi, Shafi'ee, Maliki, Hanbali, Barelwi, Deobandi or Zaidi or Abaadhi or Ash'ari or Salafi or Wahabi etc are Muslims like us.

Even those who claim that we Shia are Kafirs are misguided Muslims and we never consider them as Kafirs.

Wearing perfume has been mentioned in the Hadeeths from the Prophet (SAWA) and Ahlul Bayt (AS) as highly recommended which multiplies the reward of the Prayers seventy folds. This recommended act is for all the time and all situations. It does mean celebration as some cultures take it but it is an act of worship. It is always recommended unless your culture and your community take it as a celebrity which they don't do it in sad occasions.
Followed Islamic teachings is above following our cultures or habits.

When you believed in the fact that Ahlul Bayt (AS) are the real divine leaders of Islam after the Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) and followed them, you don't need to declare that in the form of Shahada. You should be already doing that in Azan أذان and Iqama إقامه.

It is good to say that again if you wish but it is not a condition for being a follower of Ahlul Bayt (AS) as far as you believe in it.
