Backbiting

Backbiting, backstabbing, or tale-bearing is to slander someone in their absence — to bite them behind their back.

As a volunteer in a Muslim association, I sometimes proofread articles written by other individuals. Is it correct for me to say about a specific work that it was of poor quality? How do I repent from Ghibah? Do I need to ask forgiveness of the people I have backbitten even if they do not know about it, or just seek forgiveness from Allah?
