Martyrdom Of Amr Ibn Qarza Ibn Kaab Ansari

Amr Ibn Qarza Ibn Kaab was from the progeny of Ansar (Helpers) of Medina. He was present in Karbala with Imam Al-Husayn (A) till the noon of Ashura. He was among those who formed a human shield to protect Imam Al-Husayn (A) when he offered the Zuhr prayer.

Amr stopped the arrows with his chest as long as the Imam continued to pray. He was hit with so many arrows that he could not bear the injuries and he fell down. When Imam Al-Husayn (A) came to him after the Prayer, he was in the last moments of his life. He was thinking whether he had fulfilled his duty or not. When Imam Al-Husayn (A) reached near his head, he asked the Imam only one thing, “O Aba Abdillah! Have I fulfilled the right of loyalty?”1

  • 1. It is written in Maqtal al-Husayn, Muqarram, Pg. 248, “O son of Messenger! Did I fulfill my duty?”
