Definition And Significance Of The Month Of Ramadan

Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Rahim The month of Ramadan is a holy month, the most sacred month, and it has appeared in many traditions, and especially in Kanz ul -Ummal, where it says that "limadha summya Ramadanu Ramadana? Innama summiyah Ramadanu li annahu yurmidhu adh-dhunub". Indeed, the month of Ramadan has been named Ramadan because it completely takes away the sins, obliterates the sins, and hence it has been named Ramadan. It is known to be, month of Ramadan of Ghufran, or maghfirat or forgiveness, and hence we have to repent for our sins.

Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala has blessed this month and called it Sayyid Ash-Shuhoor. It is a month which is the master of all the months like Friday, the master of all days. The month of Ramadan out of 12 months is the most sacred and the most important month. But Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala describes the month of Ramadan. He does not say that in this month there are more prayers, which there are clearly more prayers and a thousand raka'at nafila in this month to be read, 20 raka'at in first twenty nights, 30 raka'at in the last ten nights, and then hundred raka'at in each one of the Layali a-Qadr al-Qaida in the Grand Nights, the 19th, the 21st and the 23rd nights.

Allah does not say in the Holy Qur'an, it is a month of fasting. Meaning, yes, fasting has been prescribed for the people in this month, but Allah does not say that this is a month for fasting, nor for more prayers, nor for ... What is this month for? When Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala in the Qur'an describes the holy month of Ramadan and says: "Shahru Ramadan, alladi unzila fihi al-Qur'an"(2:185) the month of Ramadan in which Allah revealed the Holy Qur'an.

So this month is also known to be the month of the Holy Qur'an or recitation of the Qur'an. In another tradition, we come across the words: li kully sha'yn rabi'i. Everything has a Spring, the the weather that brings new things, grows new things or brings about positive changes. Wa rabi'i al-Qur'ani Ramadan. And and the spring of the Holy Qur'an is the month of Ramadan. So it is a very holy month in which every deed, every good deed is rewarded in abundance.

So reciting one verse of the Holy Qur'an is equal to reciting the whole of Qur'an in any other month. Fasting is prescribed, and in this month when you are fasting or even at night when you are sleeping, every breath that you take is like tasbih. An fasiku fi tasbih. As you know, the Holy See is that even when the believing people are breathing, they are regarded as doing tasbih remembering Allah, Subhana wa Ta'ala. Wa na'umukum fi 'ibadah, your sleep is regarded as an act of worship to Allah, Subhana wa Ta'ala, which is an act of service. So it is a very holy month in which we try and utilize to serve Allah in the best way possible.
