Eid al Fitr - Feast Of Servitude And Accomplishment

Bismillahi, al-Rahman, al-Rahim. Alhamdulillah wa ath-thanau lahu bi haqiqatih. Alhamdulillahi alladhee yu'minu al-khaa'ifeen, wa yunajji as-saaliheen, wa yarfa'u al-mustadh'ifeen, wa yadha'u al-mustakbireen, wa yuhliku mulukan wa yastaghlifu akhireen. Thumma as-salatu wa as-salam 'ala 'ashrafi al-anbiya'i wa al-mursaleen habibi ilahi al-'alameen abil Qasimi al-Mustafa Muhammad. [Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad], wa 'alihi, at-tayibin, at-taahirin. Useekum ibaad Allah wa nafsi bi taqwa Allah.

We are very grateful to Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala for giving us and hundreds of millions of Muslims all over the world the blessing of witnessing another Holy month of Ramadan and being able to complete it with health, with courage, and today to be able to celebrate Eid ul-Fitr. It's a great blessing of Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala and I hope that InshaAllah, Allah would give all of us opportunity to witness many more months of Ramadan because this is a great opportunity to get closer to Him, to collect some provision for our eternal journey, to do some good and charity, to strengthen ties inside the community. So we are grateful to Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala for such blessing that the Muslim Ummah all over the world has received.

As we just said in qunoot, this is not a normal day. The day of Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha are especially designed by Allah subhana wa Ta'ala. Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala when makes something as Eid, it's not just for celebration. There is celebration. There is joy and happiness. But Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala does things in much more comprehensive and profound way. You have made it a day of Eid, a day of joy for all Muslims. But 'Wa li Muhammadin salla Allahu 'alayhi wa'alihi, dhukhran wa sharafan wa karamatan dhamma zeedah.' But you have also made this for Prophet Muhammad, salla Allahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam [Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa Aali Muhammad], for the one to whom this message was given and the one who delivered this message, even if he is not with us today. But every Eid is an extra honour for Prophet Muhammad salla Allahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam [Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa Aali Muhammad].

When after 14 centuries, despite all problems and challenges, hundreds of millions of Muslims without exaggeration, come together after one month of Ibadah, it's not just you know, you give people a ticket to go to a party. The ticket for this party cost you 30 days of fasting, reviving nights of Qadr, doing lots of charity work. So when people see hundreds of millions of Muslim all over the world, despite their differences, in this day, they get together to praise to Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala, to thank Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala, to stress on our need for receiving Guidance and Mercy from Him. This is a sign of great achievement of Prophet Muhammad salla Allahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam [Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa Aali Muhammad] .

You wonder what Allah blessed the Prophet to accomplish. That despite the fact that his life for delivering the message was just 23 years. He was in the age of 40. He became a Prophet. He was appointed by God as His last messenger and he had only 23 years. Only 23 years, which in history is nothing. And then after him, there were lots of problems. Even during his life, there were lots of internal and external problems. But perhaps worse than anything else, Muslim Ummah was for the most part ruled by the people who had not experienced the real spirit of Islam. Umar meets Abbasid and you name it. What did this servant of God manage to do that still, we are benefiting from 23 years of his service. This is a great honour, but "wa mazeeda", this is not going to end or just to repeat, InshaAllah is going to expand. He has started something, but it's going to grow. 'Makana lil-Allahil yanmu'. Everything which is done for the sake of Allah, truly and wisely, it's going to grow.

So this is a great day and it is so important that we can call upon God by appealing to this day. In a sense, we are taking this day as a Wasilah because we say 'As'aluka bi haqqi hadha al-yawm' means this day is so important that it has a right, it has a haqq and we can benefit from understanding of greatness of day to call upon Allah say 'Because of this day, please send your salutations to Muhammad and ali Muhammad [Allahuma salli 'ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad] and let us enter in every good thing that you let Muhammad and ali Muhammad enter.

'An tudkhilani fee kulli khayrin adkhalta feehi Muhammadan wa ali Muhammad.' Such a beautiful, comprehensive Du'a. Whatever good Prophet and his progeny and household were able to do, we want us, their followers to be able to do, kulla khayr. And also anything bad that they refrain, they kept distance, they avoided, please help us also to avoid. ' Wa an tughrijani min kulli su'in akhrajta minhu Muhammadan wa ali Muhammad.' So basically we are asking Allah to enable us to become true followers of Muhammad and ali Muhammad in every aspect of our life. By being able to listen to You for 30 days, for the whole month, now we are in a position to be very hopeful that for all our life, we can be good followers. If in these 30 days we managed 30, 29 days, we managed to observe the Will of Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala from dawn to sunset, it means that we are able to do it every day.

There's no reason why only in the months of Ramadan we can be regular in our Salat ul-Jama'ah, in our recitation of the Qur'an, in fasting, charity. There is no reason why it should be only exclusive to the month of Ramadan. We are the same people, we have the same power, we have the same strengths, if we have the determination. In month of Ramadan, we have the determination because Allah has made it easy for us by collectively doing something. If it was only me or you, it was very difficult. But when you see millions of people are doing this, you see I am also able to do it. This a beauty of community.

So if throughout the year we act as a community, as a team, we give encouragement to each other and we would be able to do everything. So we ask Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala to accept our little acts of worship in these Holy month of Ramadan, to forgive all our sins and mistakes and to enable us to keep and preserve what we have achieved in the month of Ramadan. And InshaAllah I will talk about it more in the second khutba.

"Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim. Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad (112:1) . Allahu as-samad (112:2) . Lam yalid wa lam yulad (112:3). Wa lam yakun lahoo kufuwan ahad" (112:4). [Allahuma salli 'ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad. Allahuma salli 'ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad. Allahuma salli 'ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad].

Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim. Alhamdulillah wa ath-thanau lahu bi haqqiqatih. Alhamdulillah, Bari' il-khalaa'iqi ajma'een wa baa'ith il-anbiya’i wa al-mursaleen. Thumma as-salatu wa as-salamu 'ala ashraf al-anbiya’i wa al-mursaleen, habibi ilaahi al-'Alameen, tabibi nufusina wa shafi'i dhunubina, Abil Qasimi al-Mustafa Muhammad [Allahuma salli 'ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad]. Wa 'ala ahli at-tayyibin, at-tahirin. Allahumma salli 'ala 'Aliyyin Amir ul-Mu'minin wasiyyi Rasuli Rabb Al-'Alameen wa 'ala Fatimatu az-Zahra sayyidati am-nisai al-'Alameen, wa 'ala al-Hasani wa al-Husayn Sayyeday ash-shababi ahlil Jannah, wa 'ala 'Ali ibn Husayn Zain ul-Abideen wa Sayyidi as-Sajjideen, wa Muhammad ibn 'Ali Baqir ilmi an-nabiyyin, wa Ja'far ibn Muhammadin As-Sadiq, wa Musa ibn Ja'far al-Kadhim, wa 'Ali ibn Musa Ar-Ridha, wa Muhammad ibn 'Ali Al-Jawaad, wa 'Ali Muhammadin Al-Haadi, wa al-Hasan ibn 'Aliyy al-Zakiyyi al-Askari wa al-Hujjat ibn Al-Hasan Qa’im, il-Muntadhar al-Mahdi [Allahuma salli 'ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad]. Hujjatika wa 'ala 'Ibadik wa umma naaika fee bilaadika. Alladheena adh-habta anhumur rijz wa tahhartahum tatheera. Useekum 'Ibaad Allah wa nafsi bi taqwa Allah.

The late Sheikh Mufid, Rahmatu Allah 'alayh, and may Allah's Blessing be upon the souls of all our Ulema to whom we owe a lot. In his Amaali, quotes a Hadith from Prophet Muhammad salla Allahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam [Allahuma salli 'ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad]. Rasul Allah talks about the merits of the month of Ramadan and then Laylat ul-Fitr and the Day of Fitra. I only read the last part. 'Fa idha kanat laylat ul-Fitr wa iyyattu thamma laylata al-jawaa'iz.' When the Night of Fitr comes, means like last night. The first night of Shawwal, which is called the Night of Gifts. Last night was the Night of Gifts. 'A'ta Allahu Ta'ala al 'Aamileena ajrahum bi ghayri hisaab.' Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala rewards the people who have acted as He asked them, reward without measure. Why? Because Siyaam is an instant of Sabr. "Wasta'eenu bi 's-sabri wa as-Salah" (2:45) In many Hadith, Sabr is Siyaam, fasting, as an excellent example.

And Allah says: "Innama yuwaffa as-saabiroona ajrahum bi ghayri hisaab" (39:10). And those who are patient, Allah rewards them without measure. So you, by fasting, by not listening to temptations of your nafs which says 'You should eat, you should drink. You should do this, should do that. Look at other people. What they do.' You didn't listen. You were patient. And especially, I want to mention our young children who for the first time, fasted. Some of them might be here. Some of them might hear this later. We congratulate them for this great achievement. This needs patience.

So Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala rewards without measure, in the Night of Eid ul-Fitr, "Al-Aamileen", those who listened and acted. 'Fa idha kana ghadatu yawm il-Fitr.' When the morning of Eid comes, like now, this moment is very important moment. 'Ba'atha Allahu al-Mala'ika f' kulli al-bilad.' Allah sends Angels to all different parts of the world. 'Fa yahbituna illa al-ardh.' They descend to the Earth. They come to the nearest position to us. They are not physical. It's spiritual nearness to us. 'Wa yakifuna 'ala afwaahi as-saqaq.'They stand at the beginning of each road. 'Fa yaquloon.' The Angels then would say 'Ya Ummata Muhammad salla Allahu 'alayhi wa'alihi [Allahuma salli 'ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad]. O Nation of Prophet, may peace be upon him and his family. 'Ukhruju ila Rabbi al-Kareem.' Come out from your homes, go to Salat ul-Eid, why? Because your Generous Lord is expecting you. He's calling you.

You know, the kings, when they want to give gifts, they call people to their palace. Where is the palace of Allah? Mosques, places of Salah, places that community come together, these are all palaces of Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala. These are Buyut of Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala. 'Ukhruju ila Rabbi al-Kareem.' Go from your home to meet your Generous and Honourable Lord. 'Yu'ti al-jazeelah wa yaghfiru al-adheem.' He's going to give a lot and He is going to forgive a lot. If you have any problem in the past, now is the time to make sure that all of them are forgiven by Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala. Because Allah is most Generous now. This is the time that He has invited us to give gifts.

So He forgives, Al-'Adheem. Even if you have great, great sins. And I believe every sin is great because we are disobeying Allah. We should not say our sins are small. If we have great sins, which we have, that's the time to ask to be forgiven. And also he gives great reward. 'Fa idha barazu ila musallahum.' When they go to the place of Salaat. 'Qala Allahu azza wa jal, li il-mala'ikati, mala'ikati ma jazaa'u al-ajeer idha 'amila 'amalah.' Allah says to the Angels 'What's the return for someone who has listened and acted like someone who has been hired and has completed the job?' The Angels say: 'Ilahana wa sayyidana jazaa'uhu an tuwwaffiyah ajrah.' The return is that you give full reward, tuwwaffiy. You know Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala gives every reward in full, even much more than you expect. Then Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala says, and I humbly ask Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala on behalf of all of us, 'Please include us among these people.'

Allah says 'Fa inni ushidukum.' Allah says to the Angels 'I ask you to be a witness.' 'Mala'ikati, inni qad ja'altu thawabahum min siyami sharu Ramadan wa qiyaamihim fee ridhaya wa maghfirati.' My Angels, be a witness that the reward that I have considered for them and I'm going to give them because of fasting and because of Ibadaat in the night is My Ridha, My Pleasure and My Forgiveness. You know, Pleasure of Allah is the greatest thing perhaps that I can think that Allah gives to people of Jannah.

When Allah talks about different blessings in heaven, He says "Wa ridwaanum min Allahi akbar" (9:72). Something that brings the greatest joy to Ahlul Jannah, after your worries are over, you have come inside heaven, after you have seen the atmosphere, you have seen all the river, trees, everything. But what is greater than anything else, is that you would hear a call that Allah says 'I am pleased with you.' That makes 100% your heart peaceful. If Allah is pleased with me, Allah who has people like Muhammad and Ali and Fatimah and Hasan and Husayn [Allahuma salli 'ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad] and all the Prophets and Messengers, He says 'I am pleased with you.' Is there any joy greater than this? And Allah says to Mu'mineen today that He is pleased with them, Ridhaya wa maghfirati.

The Hadith has an ending but I don't want to take more of your time. So I hope we understand. Of course it's impossible to understand perfectly, but at least to some extent understand the great position that we have today. We are special people today. From the beginning of the month of Ramadan we were His guests but now we are in the peak of the feast. That's the time of distribution of the certificates, of the presents, of the gifts. So we have to really appreciate this moment.

I would like just to mention few points quickly. First, I want to thank again Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala on behalf of all of us for all His Blessings, especially the Blessings we have received in these days and month and ending with month of Ramadan and in particular the Blessing received in Laylat ul-Qadr. Alhamdulillah, we had very enjoyable nights of Qadr, without problem, without difficulties. We are grateful to Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala for all these blessings. I want also to thank all of you that listen to Allah's call for respecting and honouring the month of Ramadan. Alhamdulillah, we as a community with our little capacity in London, we tried to honour the month of Ramadan. We tried to show that this month is very special for us and I think many non Muslims could see how much we honour month of Ramadan.

I would like to also especially thank parents who helped their children to observe fasting of the month of Ramadan. May Allah bless all the parents who help their children to develop faith and good humanity in them. I want to thank all people who kept attending Salat time here or Du'as or any programme that we had here or any other centre. It's not important to come here. Any place that you go which belongs to Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala is appreciated. So I want to thank Mu'mineen who kept going to Masaajid, to Hussainiyyahs, to places of worship. May Allah bless you all. And I want to thank people who helped us by donating some money or some goods or undertaking some Iftars by our volunteer.

Also I want to thank our volunteers who helped us a lot and it's not easy to serve every night. Normally we didn't have less than 700, 800 people, sometimes we had more people. So these volunteers didn't break their fast till they made sure that we are all served. So we ask Allah to bless these volunteers. We ask Allah to bless also our staff here from kitchen, from every aspect of the centre who worked, who helped. May Allah InshaAllah bless them and may Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala forgive our shortcomings. I'm sure there are lots of shortcomings. Please, you also forgive us if there was any mistreatment any way that you were not treated with maximum respect, I am very sorry and I apologize.

I want to say that in this month of Ramadan, we, Alhamdulillah had to fit for many things, let us keep some of them. You know, when you go to a place you keep some items from that place as memory. You buy something, sometimes for others as souvenirs, but also you buy something for yourself to remind yourself of that place. So let us keep something from month of Ramadan so that next month of Ramadan we don't start from scratch, we start from this higher level InshaAllah.

One of the things that Alhamdulillah we had tawfiq wa as-Salat ul-Jama'ah. Alhamdulillah, we always have good attendance for Salat ul-Jama'ah. As you know in this place, Alhamdulillah, Bi idhni Allah, 365 days we have Salat ul-Jama'ah - midday and maghribain. But Saturday, Sunday, also Alhamdulillah, we have Salat ul-Jama'ah for several years. But in the month of Ramadan, every day, we had Salat ul-Jama'ah, Alhamdulillah. Now with the suggestion of some brothers we InshaAllah, add Jumu'ah to this as a reminder of month of Ramadan and InshaAllah, hopefully then become the whole week. So InshaAllah, every Friday, Saturday, Sunday there is Salat ul-Fajr Jama'ah here. Please do come because this is keeping us connected to the Sprit of the month of Ramadan and InshaAllah we will add to this, InshaAllah, Bi idhni Allah.

Another thing is, in this month Alhamdulillah, we had tawfiq to spend more time with the Qur'an. This is something to keep. If you cannot recite as much as you recite the month of Ramadan, at least raise your bar, do more than what was before Ramadan. If it's not exactly as Ramadan, at least something in between. So that you can say, I increased my time for Qur'an 20%, 30%. This is very important. Qur'an is the closest thing to Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala. Please remember this. Rasul Allah said to Amir ul-Mu'minin 'Awa laysa kitabu Rabbi afdhal al-ashya ba'ad Allahi azza wa jal.' After God, His word is the most important thing, and then it comes to people, then it comes to creation. Allah, His word.

So let us be spending more time on the Qur'an. Let us do more charity work. In the month of Ramadan you did a lot, Alhamdulillah, you contributed to charity causes. You did lots of volunteering. So please let us keep that spirit and also something very important. And I say to myself and then to you, in the month of Ramadan, I think we spend more time with family. We spend more time with community, which is our bigger family and with our personal family.

Please, please, especially those who have young children, spend productive time with your family. Your children need you more than they need money or dress. Some parents with good intention, they say you know, we work hard to save money for future, but they spend less time with their family and then in future they have money but no family left. It's a sad experience. Please spend good quality time with your family and with my understanding this is Ibadah. The time you spend with your family, the love you show to your children, to your wife husband, this is Ibadah. So please keep this spirit from month of Ramadan. Month of Ramadan, you break fast together, you do your suhoor together, keep this spirit as much as possible after the month of Ramadan. Our families are very, very special for us, are the strongest thing that we have to protect our future. So please keep this spirit of family life and community life together.

I want to end with some Du'as because this is the day of Du'as and I count on your participation by giving your hearts to me and saying, Ameen. O Allah, the Most Generous, The Most Merciful, The Most Forgiving. O God of Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad [ Allahuma salli 'ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad]. Please because of Your Mercy, because of Your Love for us, because of everything that You deserve, and not because of what we deserve, in this moment, please forgive us. Please accept us from today as Your servants. Please protect us from anything that would take us away from You. Please do not let Satan to find any way to penetrate into our heart. Please fortify our hearts and minds and make them strong. Please enable us to serve You, which is to serve the truth, to serve justice, to serve humanity, to be virtuous and pious, with all the power, with all the talents, with all the skills that we have.

Please and this is a very serious request as all our requests today. Please give Shafa' to all people that are ill [Ameen], especially the people who are ill and these brothers and sisters have great concern for them. Please give them Shifa' right away [Ameen]. Please send your Rahmah and Maghfirah to all Mu'mineen and Mu'minaat from beginning to the end, especially those who have rights upon us [Ameen]. Please send your Rahmah and Maghfirah to all our Ulema, our teachers, that they taught us how to be a good Muslim and a good human being. Please send your Rahmah to them [Ameen]. Please give long and blessed life to our parents, to our teachers, to our Ulema, to our Maraaja', to everyone who is serving You and serving humanity. Please give them a blessed and dignified life [Ameen].

Please especially help our youths in this challenging time, to find strongly and clearly their identity. To be able to experience beauty of life, of faith. To be able to shine like the stars wherever they are. Please make our youth successful in every aspect of their life [Ameen]. Please especially help our youths who are not married to marry with someone who would understand them, and appreciate them, and who would be a good partner to form a family, which would lead to have generation of healthy and pious children inshaAllah [Ameen]. And those who are married, please help them to be united and to increase in their unity, day by day [Ameen]. Please keep separation and divorce away from our community [Ameen].

Please enable us to be always united [Ameen]. Please help the oppressed people. The innocent people who are suffering, not because they did anything wrong, not because they wrong other people. Please help them so that they can have an honourable, peaceful and just and dignified life [Ameen]. In particular, we are remembering our brothers and sisters in Palestine, in Yemen, in Bahrain, in Afghanistan, in Syria, in Iraq, in Afghanistan. And unfortunately, there are many other places in the world. We remember all the oppressed people, whether they are Muslims or not, whether they are Shi'a or not, any oppressed person is our brother or sister in humanity, and we go through the same pain that they go through. We cannot have comfortable life as long as there is a person who suffers, without any guilt. May Allah InshaAllah bless them with peace and justice and dignified life [Ameen].

May Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala, this is very important Du'a for us, may Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala make Faraj of Imam az-Zaman as soon as possible [Ameen]. As easy as possible. But we know that this also requires us to do something, so we ask Allah to enable us to serve him before and after he comes. We ask Allah to include us among the people who actively courageously and wisely prepare for the coming of Imam Mahdi, ajj'al Allahu ta'ala farajahu shareef. May Allah be always with you. May the blessings and light of Ramadan remain on you. And InshaAllah hope to see you in Masjid, InshaAllah frequently.

"Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim. Inna a'tainaka al-Kauthar (108:1). Fasalli li Rabbika wa anhar (108:2) . Inna shaani'aka huwa al-abtar" (108:3). Sadaqa Allahu al-'Aliyyu al-'Adheem.
