Chapter 47: That Which Is Detestable To Take To The Ziyarah Of Imam Al-Husayn ('A)

Tradition 1: Imam As-Sadiq (‘a) said: I have come to know that some people go to the Ziyarah of Imam Al-Husayn carrying different kinds of foods including sweet meats and other deserts. Indeed, if they had gone to visit the graves of their loved ones, they would not have done thus.

Tradition 2: Imam As-Sadiq (‘a) asked, “Do you perform the Ziyarah of the grave of Imam Al-Husayn ('a)?”

The narrator replied, “Yes.”

Imam ('a) asked, “Do you carry different foods with you?” ·.

I replied, “Yes.”

Imam ('a) said, “It is sure that if you visit the graves of your own parents, you don't do this.” ·

I asked, “Then what should we eat?” Imam (‘a) replied, “Bread and milk”

Tradition 3: Same as no. 1.

Tradition 4: Imam As-Sadiq (‘a) said, “Going to the Ziyarah of Imam Al-Husayn ('a) is better than not going. But sometimes not going is better than going.”

I said, “You have broken my back with this statement.”

Imam ('a) said: By Allah, when one of you go to the graves of your fathers you are distressed and aggrieved. But when you go to Imam Al-Husayn ('a) you carry different foods. It is better not to go, unless you go aggrieved and dejected.
