في كتاب الولاية باسناده عن يحيى بن عبدالحميد الحماني الكوفي عن قيس بن الربيع عن أبي هارون عن أبي سعيد الخدري: أن رسول ‏الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لما دعا الناس بغدير خم أمر بما كان تحت الشجرة من الشوك فقم وذلك يوم الخميس. فدعا عليا فأخذ بضبعيه ‏فرفعهما حتى نظر الناس إلى بياض إبطي رسول الله، ثم لم يتفرقوا حتى نزلت هذه الآية: أليوم اكملت لكم دينكم. الآية: فقال رسول ‏الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: ألله أكبر على إكمال الدين، وإتمام النعمة، ورضى الرب برسالتي، وبالولاية لعلي عليه السلام من بعدي. ثم ‏قال: من كنت مولاه فعلي مولاه، أللهم وال من والاه، وعاد من عاداه، وانصر من نصره، واخذل من خذله. فقال حسان: إئذن لي ‏يارسول الله؟ أن أقول في علي أبياتا تسمعهن. فقال: قل على بركة الله. فقام حسان فقال: يا معشر مشيخة قريش أتبعها قولي بشهادة ‏من رسول الله في الولاية ماضية. ثم قال: يناديهم يوم الغدير نبيهم- بخم فاسمع بالرسول مناديا - يقول: فمن مولاكم ووليكم؟ - ‏فقالوا ولم يبدوا هناك التعاميا - إلهك مولانا وأنت ولينا - ولم ترمنا في الولاية عاصيا - فقال له: قم يا علي! فإنني - رضيتك من ‏بعدي إماما وهاديا - فمن كنت مولاه فهذا وليه - فكونوا له أنصار صدق مواليا - هناك دعا: أللهم! وال وليه - وكن للذي عادا ‏عليا معاديا.‏
