In the context of slavery, did female slaves automatically hold the same status as wives? If that is the case, what is the significance of marriage to slaves mentioned in the Qur'an? Why is marriage necessary if ownership implied a marital relationship?

Slavery rules were never started by Muslims but were already existing in different societies of the time when Islam came. Slavery rules are an outcome of wars. Islamic rules aimed to diminish slavery and finish it off. Slavery rules can not be taken as permanent rules for life but only in war and after war under many conditions.

Slave female from war between Nin Muslims against Muslims is not like a full wife of the owner who has the full rights of justice between her and other wife and inheritance from her husband. When the Muslims marries his owned female (Aman), she will then have all rights if the wife. With out marriage, she is called Sariyyah.

Is the claim that Buraida and Khalid bin Walid accused Imam Ali (a) of unjust distribution of Khums and keeping a slave girl for himself credible? Did the Imam own female slaves while Fatima (sa) was still alive?

The claim of Buraida against Ameerul Mo’mineen (AS) was instigated by Khalid ibn Al-Waleed. Such claim can not be trusted because it came from Munafiqs.

‘Imam Ali (AS) did not have any relationship with any woman during the life of Lady Fatima (AS). Even if the narration is authentic and the share of Imam Ali (AS) was a female slave, it does not mean that he had slept with her but he can sell her or keep her for serving his wife or children.

If Islam is supposedly against slavery, and by its rules slavery should gradually disappear, why is it that slavery still existed at the time of the later Imams?

Islam came to a world full of slavery as part and parcel of the whole social and economical systems which was practiced for thousand of years. Islam started the procedure to gradually melt slavery system. The result of the Islamic anti slavery rules, slavery decreased among Muslims till it became very rare among Muslim communities till today while slavery was practiced in Europe and Americas one thousand years after that and till the 19 th century.

'Islamic rules were the best practical rules which dealt with the slavery and diminish it if few centuries.

My husband wants to do my slavery. He wants me to whip him and torture him. And he is doing this willingly. Is it allowed in Islam for my husband to seek this treatment?

This is unusual for a person to ask to be whipped or tortured. I think he should see a doctor.

You should not whip nor torture your husband at all but help him to be treated properly to be a mentally healthy man.
