If you trust the Muslim who tells you that it is Halal, then you can take it as Halal as far as he knows the source of the meat.

As long as the animal is alive at the time of slaughtering, its meata would be halal. 

And Allah knows best

No one has a right to pick in Islamic rules whatever he feels more logical for him. We must obey Allah even if our thinking based on our limited knowledge does not digest it. The orders of Allah are taken from the Prophet (SAWA) and his Holy Progeny Ahlul Bayt (AS). You need to follow the most highest scholar ( Marje' of Taqleed) to seek guidance.

If one knows that a product is fried with non-halal meat, then it would become najis (impure) and haram to eat. If one didn't know then there is no sin upon them.
