Imam Husayn's Revolution

Bismillah, al-Rahman, al-Rahim. Almighty God mentions in the Holy Qur'an, in Surah Al-Nisa' verse number 148, "La yuhibbu Allahu aljahra bi'lssoo'i min al-qawli illa man thulima"(4:148),"God does not like the public mentioning of an evil except by one who has been wronged". We know that as human beings we make mistakes and we are faulty, but we should try to conceal and cover.

The exemption that God expresses in this verse is someone who is wronged needs to be able to voice their opinion.

The oppressed needs to be helped and supported, irrespective of their religion, their race, their nationality, their creeds, their sects. We need to stand with the oppressed against the oppressor. This will work as a wonderful deterrence, because anyone who thinks of oppressing anybody else or anything else will be exposed.

This was the message of Imam Husayn (a.s.), the grandson of the beloved prophet of Islam. Bani Ummaya and the Muslim rulers in the early years of Islam were burying the true message of Islam.

Imam Husayn (a.s.) Led a revolution, an uprising, a demand for reform against the tyranny and oppression that was being perpetrated at that time. This revolution was not a military revolution, it was a humanitarian revolution. He took his family members, elderly, women, children and some of his companions and travelled towards the land of Karbala, it was there that they were slayed and the tragedy of A'shura occurred. We learn from the message of Imam Husayn (a.s.) that we need to stand with the oppressed.

We are able to understand that this humanitarian revolution was to awaken the hearts of the Muslim Ummah for them to realize the plights the Muslims were going through. As Australian Muslims of today, we can learn a lot from the legacy of A'shura and Karbala. We are able to understand that we have a duty and responsibility to convey the true message of Islam. We need to make sure that we are proudly able to say that the sacrifice of Imam Husayn (a.s.) did not go to waste. This is why we need to remember the legacy and need to implement the true teachings of Islam.

We need to be able to convey the true teachings and practices of our religion. And this is why we say that every land is Karbala and every day is A'shura.
