Why Remember the Tragedy of Karbala?
So the first narration I wanted to mention was from Imam Al-Baqir, 'alayhi as-salam. He said the Prophet, salla Allahu 'alayhi wa aalih [Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa Aali Muhammad], he said the Prophet once gazed at Imam Husayn 'alayhi as-salam, while he was in front of him, and he sat Imam Husayn on his lap, and he said: "Verily for the martyrdom of Imam Husayn there is a heat in the heart of the believers that will never be extinguished". And in another time he also mentioned about Imam Husayn, he said no believer remembers him except that he cries for him.
So we see that this is not just something that comes and goes. It is something that is continuous, that we always cry for Imam Husayn, we remember his tragedies and what we befell him.
So this is when we come to establish majlis every year, we come to commemorate and to bring the stories of the lives of Ahl ul-Bayt alayhum as-salam, and to remember what they stood for and what they sacrificed. Because if this was just a historical event, historical events come and go. As you can ask many people here or even in your own countries, when you study in school about the history of the country, let us say here in America maybe in school you study about the Civil War or the French Revolution or one of these wars, you might remember it right then, but over time you do not remember those things anymore.
But the tragedy of Karbala, every year it is something that you never forget. Once you hear that story, it is something in your heart. Like the Prophet said you never forget what happened. It is always fresh in your mind.
Die erste Überlieferung, die ich erwähnen möchte, stammt von Imam Al-Baqir, 'alayhi as-salam. Er sagte, der Prophet, salla Allahu 'alayhi wa aalih [Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa Aali Muhammad], er sagte, der Prophet blickte einmal auf Imam Husayn 'alayhi as-salam, während er vor ihm stand, und er setzte Imam Husayn auf seinen Schoß, und er sagte: "Wahrlich, für das Martyrium von Imam Husayn gibt es eine Hitze im Herzen der Gläubigen, die niemals erlöschen wird". Wir sehen also, dass dies nicht nur etwas ist, das kommt und geht. Es ist etwas, das andauert, dass wir immer um Imam Husayn weinen, wir erinnern uns an seine Tragödien und an das, was ihm widerfahren ist.
Deshalb kommen wir jedes Jahr zum Majlis, um zu gedenken und die Geschichten aus dem Leben der Ahl ul-Bayt alayhum as-salam zu erzählen und um uns daran zu erinnern, wofür sie standen und was sie geopfert haben. Denn wenn dies nur ein historisches Ereignis war, kommen und gehen historische Ereignisse. Ihr könnt viele Menschen hier oder sogar in euren eigenen Ländern fragen, wenn ihr in der Schule etwas über die Geschichte des Landes lernt, sagen wir mal, hier in Amerika lernt ihr in der Schule vielleicht etwas über den Bürgerkrieg oder die Französische Revolution oder einen dieser Kriege, dann erinnert ihr euch vielleicht sofort daran, aber mit der Zeit erinnert ihr euch nicht mehr an diese Dinge.
Aber die Tragödie von Karbala ist jedes Jahr etwas, das man nie vergisst. Wenn man diese Geschichte einmal gehört hat, ist sie etwas in deinem Herzen. Wie der Prophet sagte, man vergisst nie, was geschehen ist. Es ist immer noch frisch in deinem Gedächtnis.
Así que la primera narración que quería mencionar era del Imam Al-Baqir, 'alayhi as-salam. Dijo que el Profeta, salla Allahu 'alayhi wa aalih [Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa Aali Muhammad], dijo que el Profeta una vez miró al Imam Husayn 'alayhi as-salam, mientras estaba frente a él, y sentó al Imam Husayn en su regazo, y dijo: "Ciertamente, por el martirio del Imam Husayn hay un ardor en el corazón de los creyentes que nunca se extinguirá". Y en otra ocasión también mencionó sobre el Imam Husayn, dijo que ningún creyente se acuerda de él salvo aquel que llora por él.
Así vemos que esto no es algo que va y viene. Es algo que es continuo, que siempre lloramos por el Imam Husayn, recordamos sus tragedias y lo que le ocurrió.
Así que cuando venimos a establecer majlis cada año, venimos a conmemorar y a traer las historias de las vidas de Ahl ul-Bayt alayhum as-salam, y a recordar lo que representaron y lo que sacrificaron. Porque si esto fuera sólo un acontecimiento histórico, los acontecimientos históricos van y vienen. Como ustedes pueden preguntar a mucha gente aquí o incluso en sus propios países, cuando ustedes estudian en la escuela sobre la historia del país, digamos que aquí en Estados Unidos quizás en la escuela ustedes estudian sobre la Guerra Civil o la Revolución Francesa o una de estas guerras, puede que ustedes lo recuerden en ese momento, pero con el tiempo ya ustedes no recuerdan esas cosas.
Pero la tragedia de Karbala, cada año es algo que nunca se olvida. Una vez que escuchas esa historia, es algo que está en tu corazón. Como dijo el Profeta, nunca olvidas lo que pasó. Siempre está fresco en tu mente.
