Ayah in Focus - Surah Al-Mujadilah (58:11) Respect and honour your fellow believers and Allah (SWT) will reciprocate in kind. This verse reflects the etiquette to be observed in a meeting or gathering.
The Prophet, sallallahu alihi wa alih, wanted to honour those who participated in the Battle of Badr. So he ordered the Muslims to come for a gathering. They started gathering. Some of those who participated in the battle arrived a bit later. Those Muslims who are sitting closer to the Prophet, sallallahu alihi wa alih, would not make room to accommodate those individuals who actually were being honoured. The Prophet, sallallahu alihi wa alih, then said, "Tafasahu yarhamkumu Allah" - make room, may Allah have mercy upon you.
When those Muslims heard this striving for the Mercy of the Lord, they jumped out of their seats and they accommodated those individuals who participated in the battle of Badr. This Ayah was revealed, number 11 of Surat il-Mujaadilah: "Bismil-Lahi, Al-Rahman, Al-Rahim. Oh you who have faith! When you are told, 'Make room' in sittings then do make room; Allah will make room for you" (58:11). When you show respect to other fellow human beings, to the society, Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala will illuminate your life.
Wa assalamu alaykum, wa rahmatullahi, wa barakatu.
